ISSM Introductory Tutorials

The UMaine Geodynamics Numerical Modeling Lab has made recent use of the Ice Sheet Systems Model (ISSM) formulated by the Jet Propulsion Laboratory at the California Institute of Technology. This thermomechanical finite element model utilizes parallelized architecture to solve continental scale ice sheet domains. Like many other ice sheet models, ISSM largely uses the Shallow Shelf Approximation to solve for ice flow. However, ISSM also integrates Higher Order and Full Stokes solutions in areas where vertical changes in speed are significant such as ice stream margins and grounding lines. The following tutorials are meant for users who are new to the ISSM interface. Before beginning the examples, make sure you have an updated version of MATLAB and have downloaded the ISSM binaries from the following website: ISSM Download Page
