Structure From Motion (SfM) Demo

General tips:

  • JPEG is less reliable
  • Color palate manipulation in smartphone photos can present issues
  • Lossless formats preferable
    • .TIFF
    • .RAW

Steps:

  • Open Agisoft PhotoScan
    • In Workspace, "Enable Chunks"
    • Add two chunks
      • Time_0
      • Time_1
    • Add photos
    • Estimate image quality
      • Filters out photos with motion blur, etc.
      • Quality ranges from 0-1
      • Poor quality photos (perhaps <0.7) can be eliminated
      • Glossy and reflective surfaces are difficult to resolve
    • Workflow --> Align Photos
    • Sparse point cloud
      • The number pad is helpful for orientation in the 3D workspace
    • Dense point cloud
    • Create Mesh
    • Batch Process
      • Useful for the "Save Project After Each Step" feature
      • Not useful for traversing through all of the processing steps
